Our classroom is always looking for volunteers and there are many ways to help out! Listed below are a variety of volunteer positions available. The commitment for each one varies, so assess your time, availability, and interests to find the right one for you. Some volunteers directly work with students and some are behind-the-scenes work at home jobs. Some are a regularly scheduled day/time while others are a 'one-shot deal.' All are important and provide our classroom with much needed support! Thank you in advance for your support!
If you are interested in volunteering during the school day, fingerprinting results must be on file as well as a completed anti-bullying training form. The PTA and SAU 19 office both host fingerprinting sessions throughout the school year. For more information watch the weekly NBCS newsletters or call the SAU 19 office at 497-4818.
Room Parents - Work as a team with the teacher to organize parties, volunteers, and special events. Room parents will contact other classroom parents in person, by phone, or in emails.
Secretarial Assistance - Provide general assistance with organizing classroom materials, making games/kits, copying, etc. This job can be done during or after school hours.
General Classroom Assistance - Directly work with students providing assistance with instruction and/or reinforcement of skills. This could include working with kids on the computer, assisting during writing time, listening to them read, practice math facts, etc… This job has regularly scheduled times. Writing assistance is typically first thing in the morning. Other areas may have more flexibility with time.
Special Skills and Talents - Do you have a special skill, talent, or job that you are willing to share with our class? (Examples from previous years include, but are not limited to….lifeguard, scientist, animal caretaker, golf pro, orchard worker, housekeeper, drummer, etc… We are always looking for adults to come talk to us about how they use 'all this school stuff' in their everyday lives. How do you use reading, writing, and math to do your regular every-day responsibilities? Any visuals or hands-on items will only add to your presentation. This job is done during school hours by arrangement with the teacher.
Book Club - Organize and send home monthly Scholastic Book Club order forms. After the ordering deadline, compile and submit orders. This job is mostly on-line and can be done from home.
Field Trip Chaperone - Supervises small groups of students on excursions off the school campus. Chaperones are responsible for following the group's agenda, managing typical student behavior, and modeling best behavior. Chaperones typically carpool together when traveling to/from the field trip location. This job is done during (and sometimes later than) school hours. Siblings may/may not be allowed depending on the trip requirements. Notifications for field trips are usually sent home with your child via paper newsletter. There may be an admission fee associated with this job.
Special Events - From time to time our classroom will need a volunteer (or 2-3) for a party, project, or other special event. The teacher and/or room parent(s) will share notification of these opportunities as they occur. This job is done during school hours and usually at specific times.
Bonus Time - Do you have some unexpected time on your hands? Want to avoid household chores? If you have a small amount of time for us, we'll take it! Let me know the day before and I can usually find time in our schedule for some bonus help! This job is during school hours.
Want more opportunities to volunteer? Mrs. Charles in the library is always looking for regular volunteers. Mrs. Chalson in the art room also uses volunteers quite frequently.
