Wow, we are having a busy week full of fun activities!
Yesterday we traveled to Mrs. Gallegos' room and engineered snowball launchers! Each child had to plan and design a launcher using the supplied materials. They then had time to build the launcher according to their design plan. Unfortunately, no 'snowballs' (cotton balls) were launched because time ran out. Many kids had plans to go home and fix up their launchers before testing them out. Did your child share their launcher with you?
Today began with our buddies in third grade. Half of the class went upstairs with Mrs. Frarie and half stayed with me. Those with Mrs. Frarie listened to a story and then made pine cone bird feeders. In our room, we strung popcorn and cranberries to make an edible garland for the birds and other outdoor critters. Tomorrow we will switch groups so each child will have a chance to do both activities. After we finish the activities, we will take a walk on the hill behind the school to hang up our holiday treats for the critters living near our school. Please make sure your child has snow clothes tomorrow. Thanks!
This afternoon we visited with Mrs. Prive. She talked with the class about crystals and how to grow them. She then led the class in an experiment to grow crystals. Each child was asked to make a hypothesis about what the crystals will look like when we see them tomorrow. We can't wait!
A reminder that this coming Friday is pajama day for second graders. We are NOT bringing stuffed animals to school, just wearing P.J.'s! Also a reminder that our imaginary trip on the Polar Express is a secret! The kids will be finding out about it tomorrow afternoon. They will be asked to bring their 'ticket' back to school with them on Friday....
As we get ready for 2018 I am prepping the class for some changes coming their way. The changes focus on increasing individual responsibility. Here are some things that will start when we return in January:
