Yahoo! We learned today that we have earned a picnic lunch tomorrow! All of the grades have been working on being safe, respectful, and responsible in the cafeteria. When a teacher saw a student doing expected behavior in the lunch room, the student was given a gold coin to put in the 'wishing well.' All of the grades worked together to earn over 1,500 gold coins! WOW! SO, we eat outside tomorrow. Hot lunches will be on special biodegradable trays. Cold lunchers will eat what they bring from home. I hear there may even be music, it will be fun!
THANK YOU, again, for your extra pep talks at home about classroom behavior. I am seeing a big difference in the past two days!
Today we were introduced to 'puff ball' fidgits. Ask your child what a puff ball fidgit is. See if they can tell you how it should be used!
We also began using pencil grips today. MANY children need to move from 4 fingers on the pencil to 3. It will take a lot of practice! We talked about how we are strengthening our hand muscles in order to have better pencil control. Once we have better pencil control, we can begin learning cursive! MOTIVATION!! After just a little bit of writing with the pencil grips, many children had tired hands. They are using muscles in a different way and it will take time to gain stamina! We'll keep at it! We also talked about giving the ring and pinkie fingers a job to do, so they don't end up on the pencil. Give them something to hold - a penny, a paperclip, etc.... It works well!
As the days begin to get cooler, please be sure to send your child with a jacket or sweatshirt every day. If the temperature is less than 60 degrees, a jacket/sweatshirt is required at recess. Today, the temperature at both recesses was under 60. Many kids were chilly! BE SURE TO LABEL THEM WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME!
