Today we participated in a 'Global Cardboard Challenge' in the library! Our class arrived in the library to find MANY cardboard creations already in process. During our time in the library we were able to add to or enhance any cardboard creation. Beginning a new creation was also okay. For materials, we had access to a HEAP of cardboard, paper, tape, markers, scissors, and crayons. WOW! Our class worked on a house, a basketball game, a printer, a crab, and much more! Creativity and imagination were in full swing! In addition, the children used a variety of skills to problem solve, communicate ideas, negotiate, and to be safe with materials. They did a fantastic job!
The 'Global Cardboard Challenge' ties in with the book, What to do With a Box, that Mrs. Charles read to us in library yesterday. She also showed us a video called "Caine's Arcade." In the video, a 9 year old boy created a cardboard arcade to keep himself occupied. A film maker happened to see it and created the video "Caine's Arcade." It went viral and inspired an International Day of Play, from which the cardboard challenge stems. If you would like to view the video "Caine's Arcade," here is the link! Who knows, maybe this will inspire your family to create new cardboard masterpieces together!
