A “Top-Down Web” is a graphic organizer that shows the hierarchy of main ideas. Top-Down Webs can be used for a variety of purposes in a variety of subjects. For example:
- Use one to extract information out of a text.
- Use one to show steps in a process.
- Use one to organize thoughts and ideas before writing.
- Use one to show how parts relate to a whole.
It is important to note that there are NO sentences on a Top-Down Web, just words or phrases. Think of a Top-Down Web as external memory, a place outside of your brain to hold ideas until you are ready to use them.
